Another week of the IPL has gone by in the blink of an eye. But the week had it all. From a 500-run, six-hitting contest between Mumbai and Hyderabad to ‘Thala’ Dhoni turning back the clock, the past week has left everyone wanting more. However, the essence of the IPL lies in showcasing the bright and young, local talent the country has to offer. This week saw quite a few uncapped players stand out with noteworthy performances. Here are some of them who really lit up the IPL and the Sixer Market with their performances.
Riyan Parag (Rajasthan)
Who else but Riyan Parag? It feels like he’s been in the IPL forever, but it's easy to forget that Riyan is just in his early 20s. But when he is on song with the bat, Parag seems like a veteran who has his life goals sorted. He currently holds the Orange Cap with 181 runs, and his price is up by a whopping 49% already! Imagine buying 2x stocks in him (it might not be too late yet). Parag has mixed caution with aggression, with a clarity of role within the Rajasthan batting also helping. With Parag looking like a million dollars every time he bats, India honours might not be far off.
Akash Madhwal (Mumbai)
While Parag led Rajasthan to a rather comfortable win against Mumbai on Monday, it wasn’t exactly smooth sailing for him. Mumbai did put up a fight, and Akash Madhwal was one of the main reasons why. Madhwal, who was playing in his first IPL 2024 game of the season, turned up the heat, accounting for the big wickets of Sanju Samson and Jos Buttler. He had figures of 3/20 in his four overs, with a nearly 20% increase since the start of his contract. Madhwal showed decent control and got the ball to skid off the track, given his remarkably smooth action. Although Mumbai is still winless in three games in the IPL this year, Madhwal’s grand return to IPL cricket is a positive sign going into April.
Mayank Yadav (Lucknow)
The Lucknow Super Giants' franchise is just three years old, and not many fans may find a hook to watch their games, until last weekend at least. They faced Punjab on Saturday and were staring at defeat with ten overs to go. But up stepped young pace sensation Mayank Yadav. Mayank is a lanky pacer who has a Kemar Roach-esque run-up and throws firebolts in excess of 150 kmph at the batters. He turned the game around with a three-wicket haul, including the wicket of Shikhar Dhawan. Mayank was able to hit the deck hard and generate extra pace, which led to Punjab squandering what seemed like a comfortable win for them. Mayank Yadav saw a 12% surge after his IPL debut and has already attracted a lot of fanfare after his lightning-quick spell. One match might be too early to judge a player, but Mayank has it all and could well be an asset for Indian cricket in the long run.
Three supreme performances from three very talented cricketers! That's what the IPL is about, apart from profits in the Sixer Market too. But the best part is that there’s a lot of time left in the IPL for more uncapped players to ball out and for Sixer enthusiasts to time the market to perfection. Which IPL uncapped player are you going to trade for?
